Would you like to know the biomechanics of your foot?
It’s very simple and once you know the basics you’ll be set!
The way in which your foot moves through the running motion is the information you will need before searching for black running shoes. You can learn a lot about the bio-mechanics of your foot by looking at the shoes you already have. The type of shoes are not important so just grab a pair of your well worn, flat soled shoes and have a close look at them by putting them on a table or counter at eye level so you can have a good look at the heels.
Do the heels lean inwards or outwards? Is the heel worn on the inside or outside? Check the wear pattern on the bottom of the soles, are the heels wearing evenly? Does the ball of the foot show wear across the entire width of the shoe? Are some parts of the sole worn while other parts are not? The wear pattern of your shoes give you clues about how your foot moves through your running or walking stride where most runners will fit into one of three main categories; Neutral runners, overpronators or supination. There is no good or bad, no right or wrong but it is important to know which category fits your foot movement.
Neutral pronation: Pro-nation is the action of the foot rolling inwards towards the middle of the foot. The Neutral foot strikes the ground near the outside of the heel and rolls slightly inwards to the inside of the ball of the foot which absorbs the shock as your weight comes into the foot. This ‘ideal’ movement through the action of running is called ‘neutral’
Overpronation: Movement in a foot that exceeds the normal range is said to overpronate. The landing of the foot is in the right place on the heel, but as it goes through the running motion, it rolls too far inwards. The weight shift through the foot is too far to the inside of the sole.
Supination: The movement in a foot that is less than normal is said to supinate. The foots start place on the heel is right but doesn’t roll inward enough, if at all. The foot stays on the outer edge of the sole throughout the entire motion of running.
It’s not common to have biomechanically perfect feet. Your foot type and your foot movement are often related. A Low arched foot is the usual cause of overpronation because the foot collapses under your body weight and rolls inward. A high arched foot results in more rigid feet that won’t roll inward enough while the neutral arched foot and normal foot movement will coincide. Don’t worry too much if you don’t get your foot evaluation right the first time. You could have a low-arched left foot that overpronates and a high-arched right foot that supinates with low arches in motion. Your particular combination can be hard to pinpoint but don’t worry, there are black running shoes designed specifically for each of the foot types. The main thing to remember is that choosing the right black running shoes for your foot type will help avoid injuries.
